1.
Why is backbone important?
The
vertebral column or back bone, as it is commonly known as, is the main strong
structure of the back.
Just like in
a tall building, the columns are the main structure giving stability to the
building – The vertebral column gives stability to the back along with
flexibility too.
2.
What is the composition of the back?
A back has
the vertebral column made of multiple vertebral bodies and intervertebral disc
and other structures such as muscles, ligaments.
3. How many bones are there in the
vertebral column?
There are
1.
|
Neck – cervical spine
|
7
|
2.
|
Chest-Thoracic spine
|
|
3.
|
Abdomen-Lumbar spine
|
|
4.
|
Pelvis –Sacrum
|
|
5.
|
Coccyx
|
4. What is tail bone?
The terminal
part of the vertebral column is call coccyx or the Tail bone. With the evolution,
human being does not have tail but the terminal shrunken portion of group of bones
is called as Tail – bone.
5. What is the architectural design of the
vertebral column?
The vertebral
column in the human beings has a unique design from the front like the building
column as it is straight.
In the neck region,
the curvature is having convexity (or
anterior bend )towards the front side . In the chest curvature is the opposite
i.e. at behind, same the curvature is in from in stomach region.
Knowledge of
this curvature is important in postural backache.
6. What is the posture?
Posture is
the position in which the body is placed or positioned when we are standing, sitting,
lying down or working.
7.
What is normal posture? OR When do you
say that body is in normal posture?
When our body
is placed (Positioned) in accordance to the natural curvature or design & are
in the position of least strain that is the normal posture of that region.
8. What is normal standing posture? OR
could you tell us which is good position in which can stand
comfortably?
Normal
standing posture stand erect shoulder braced behind chest forward, tummy tucked
in, shoulder & hip in same straight line, feet spread apart 12-15 inches. In this
position can stand comfortably for a long time, the natural curvature of the
spine is preserved.
So, there is
least strain on the structures of the vertebral column.
9. What is the normal sitting position? OR How to sit in chair?
In sitting position,
the back has to erect & possibly supported, the chair or furniture usually
have a vertical element which is meant for supporting the back.
